Abstract
National long-term care was introduced in 2008 after facing the limitation of family care for the elderly under the circumstance of rapid aging society. Although a lot of papers explored the national long-term care issues, the aspect of social care rather than family care was not fully discussed in the previous research. This paper illustrates the correlates of the perception of social care from college students and their parents examining instrumental family care perception, emotional family care perception, and family cohesion. The main results are as follows. 1) Perception of social care was stronger among the parents compared than their children group. 2) Correlates of the perception of social care was differed by college student and family group. More specifically, higher score of social care was related to the lower instrumental and emotional family care perception in the college student. On the other hands, higher social care score was related to the lower family care perception and lower family cohesion in the parents group. It is suggested that family and society share the elderly care responsibility.
